Ingredients

At Botanic Organic we craft our products using truly natural ingredients. Skin is a permeable barrier and, like other organs in our body, is subject to toxins. There are a great many fabulous and natural ingredients that can be used in skincare products in place of the harsh, chemical ingredients that are so commonly used. Nature offers us complex and powerful botanicals that deliver their beneficial effects when the plant is used in its entirety.

Our carrier oils are extracted from fruits, grains, nuts and seeds. We choose organic, unrefined, cold pressed or expeller pressed oils because these grades of oils have been mechanically pressed rather than extracted using petrochemical solvents such as heptane or hexane. We particularly favor cold pressed oils since less heat has been used in the extraction process. Heat can destroy the nutritional value of an oil or butter and we don't like to lose any of those precious nutrients! Unrefined oils and butters are stronger in color and scent than refined oils, making them a little trickier to craft with, but we believe the extra effort is well worth it.

Plant distillates (hydrosols) are artisan distilled from fresh, organic plant materials rather than dried. Our herbal oils and extracts are infusions of freshly gathered wildcrafted or organic herbs and flowers, and we use only pure essential oils to fragrance our products.

We hope that you will enjoy reading a little bit about the prized natural substances that can truly benefit your skin, with no dangerous side effects. They are the building blocks for the products that we make at Botanic Organic and have been chosen for their attention to purity, their craftsmanship, and their amazing therapeutic value.

Preservatives

Why use preservatives? To keep our skincare products safe for use.

Skincare products such as cream moisturizers and lotions which contain water and which don't contain any ingredients to prevent and control microbial growth, will start to go off and may even start growing potentially pathogenic organisms. To control microbial growth and to stabilize any such cosmetic product, some form of preservative must be used.

Balance is important when considering the use of preservatives in skincare products. One must include enough preservative to control microbial growth, yet not too much so as to cause allergies, dermatitis or any side effects. We make our products in small batches to ensure that they are fresh, stable and yet not overly-filled with preservatives.

Aspen Bark Extract is derived from the quaking aspen tree common to northern and western North America.
